$5.00
Extreme Cold Sleeping Bag Sale
The Great Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America has been granted special access to federal and state surplus through the Missouri State surplus administration.
One of the many surplus items available to Boy Scouts, are extreme cold sleeping bags for $5.00. These are government-issue sleeping bags designed for use by the military. These bags are rated for use in conditions down to 30 below zero. We've been told that new, these bags sell for around $250. Though these bags are used, they are clean and in excellent shape, and will provide scouts many years of a service for the price of a cheeseburger.
Unit Young Men's leaders and Scout leaders are encouraged to see that their scouts have access to this outstanding resource. The Stake has purchased around 70 of these bags that now can be obtained by scouters of the Stake (youth and leaders) at the $5 cost. We would like to see that all of the scouts and scout leadership that plan to attend the Klondike Derby be given priority in the purchase of these bags. Any additional sleeping bags will be sold to other scouters on a first come first serve basis.
Units can coordinate their order through Bradford Jorgensen, of the Stake Young Men’s Presidency. Checks are to be made to the Columbia Missouri Stake. Brad can be reached at 660-676-7000 or by e-mail at Bradford@AnM8.com
Leaders can also purchase bags and other surplus items directly from the Missouri state surplus administration in Jefferson City. To do this you must first obtain a purchase order from the Great Rivers Council office in Columbia. For more information on this option, you can contact the council directly at (800) SCOUTLAW
By law, government surplus procured through this program must be “maintained” by the organization purchasing it for one year. As we see it, the unit should have a general idea of the location of the bags. Under no circumstances can items obtained from the state surplus program be resold to the general public for the period of one year. In other words, buying bags to turn around and sell on eBay would be a federal offense!
We believe that this is an outstanding resource available to our Young Men. We would like to see each of the young men in the Stake have the opportunity to take advantage of this benefit.
